Learning Tracks: Feature Specification

These are the features Hylo is planning to build in early 2025 for our integration of Crew for All's learning and program management technology.

What's new

We are thrilled to announce that Crew for All and Hylo are uniting to create a stronger, more integrated platform dedicated to learning, collaboration, and community building. Crew for All’s innovative technology will be incorporated into Hylo β€” including an action-oriented Learning Management System (LMS) β€” ensuring a seamless experience for both platforms’ members as we join hands to support purpose-driven groups to create a thriving future for all life. Tracks

Tracks are structured learning pathways that contain a series of steps or modules for participants to work through. Examples include how-to guides, fellowship program units, check-lists, or onboarding guides for new group members. Here is how we will implement Tracks in Hylo:

Basic Requirements

  • Tracks are an ordered collection of Actions (which will be a new Post type on Hylo)

  • Tracks have an About page where members can learn about the Track and decide whether they want to join it. This will sign them up for notifications & reminders about the track.

  • Participants can see all the Tracks they are working on by going to My Home > My Tracks. When viewing a Track, they will be able to see their progress in that Track and easily navigate between steps.

Track Components

Track Management UI

  • Stewards can see all the Tracks in the group, including who created each one and the date it was published.

  • Stewards can edit an existing Track (if they have permissions to do so)

  • Stewards can publish/unpublish Tracks.

  • Stewards can duplicate a Track.

  • Stewards can view metrics about each Track, such as how many people are currently enrolled, and how many have completed the Track. Specifically, we will show:

    • Who has joined it with their start date

    • Who has completed it with their end date

    • Total number of people who have started it, & number who have completed it

Creating a Track

  • Tracks can be created from the Track Management UI within Group Settings, or from the overall β€œCreate” button.

    • Tracks would be a new option with a slide explaining the process

    • Only group stewards can create a Track

  • Newly-created Tracks will default to Draft status (unpublished), with the option to publish them when ready.

  • Newly-created Actions that are part of a Track won’t be published to the main group Stream, only to the Track.

  • Tracks can be unpublished at any time and set back to hidden/draft mode.

  • Tracks can have a start date and an end date / deadline. Tracks with dates appear in the group calendar.

Completing a Track can unlock more content

  • Completing a track results in the member earning a Role/badge.

  • There will be a default badge that a person gets for completing each Track. Stewards can customize this.

  • Badges/Roles can unlock content, such as the next Track in a sequence

Actions

Action Requirements

  • Content in each Track will be composed of Actions, a new Post type. Actions can also be created by any member independently of a Track.

  • If an Action is part of a Track, it is not posted to the Stream when created.

  • Metrics for Actions will include who has completed it and when, and how many members total have completed it.

Action Settings

  • Actions can be optional or required.

  • Actions can be sequential or completed in any order

  • Actions can be either completed only once (by any one individual) or many times by separate members.

  • Members’ responses to an Action can be visible to each other or not

  • Completion: These are the options for how a member can complete the Action:

    • A β€œDone”/”Completed” button

    • An emoji reaction (Either specific or general)

    • A radio buttons (Multiple choice)

    • Leaving a comment

    • Attaching a file (photo/document)

  • Completing an Action can earn the user a badge

    • Badges can unlock something on the platform

Hylo Commons

Stewards can share Tracks beyond their group, into the forthcoming Hylo Commons where they would be accessible to anyone on Hylo! The Hylo Commons will be a shared learning library and knowledge commons that can uplift all people and communities on Hylo.

Additional Features Requested by Crew for All Members

  • Last Activity Date for members will be added to the Member Export CSV

  • Migration Support:

    • Tracks - We can create a script that takes Track content exported from Crew, formats it to Hylo's data schema, and imports the Tracks into your new Hylo group.

    • Members - We can support migrating members over by sending out bulk invitation emails from your CSV.

Coming Later (Phase 2 and beyond)

  • Group stewards will be able to charge tuition for each Track.

  • Group stewards will be able to decide whether they’d like a Track to be accessible to people that are not already part of their group on Hylo.

  • Custom URLs: In the future, would like to create the ability for groups to use custom URLs in the future to mask the Hylo URL for their group. This would be a premium, paid feature.

Did we miss anything? Are you a Crew for All member with additional requests or changes? Please reach out to clare@terran.io to let us know how we can best support your transition to Hylo.
