Roles, Badges, and Responsibilities
Getting clear about which roles your group needs to accomplish its goals, and distributing those roles to members allows everyone in the group to understand who is doing what and progress together.
Common Roles and Platform Responsibilities
Common roles are shared across all Hylo groups and give access to important platform responsibilities. The common roles are Coordinator, Moderator, and Host which give access to specific functionality (platform responsibilities) related to the platform.
Platform Responsibilities include:
Administration Allows for editing group settings, exporting data, and deleting the group. Add Members The ability to invite and add new people to the group, and to accept or reject join requests. Remove Members The ability to remove a member from the group. Manage Content Adjust group topics, custom views and manage content that contradicts the agreements of the group.
Coordinator Role
Coordinators are empowered to do everything related to group administration. When a member is assigned this role, they have the following platform responsibilities:
Administration
Add Members
Remove Members
Manage Content
Moderator Role
Moderators are expected to actively engage in discussion, encourage participation, and take corrective action if a member violates group agreements. When a member is assigned this role, they have the following platform responsibilities:
Remove Members
Manage Content
Host Role
Hosts are responsible for cultivating a good atmosphere by welcoming and orienting new members, embodying the group culture and agreements, and helping members connect with relevant content and people. When a member is assigned this role, they have the following platform responsibilities:
Add Members
The coordinator of the Group can add members to each of these roles.
Note: Common Roles and Responsibilities cannot be edited
Custom Responsibilities
These can be used to denote group responsibilities that members hold outside of Hylo and in real life, like managing equipment, gardens, or childcare. When you add a new responsibility, you can assign that power to specific roles which members of your community can step into.
Custom Roles or Badges
To create additional Roles or Badges, click “Create new role/badge,” and indicate the name, description, emoji associated with that Role or Badge. Once the Role or Badge is created, you can then attach Responsibilities and Group members to that Role or Badge These roles will appear next to the member’s name everywhere in the Group.
Examples of how this could be used:
“Super Member” - signifies members that have made significant contributions to the community
“Expert” - subject matter experts who had demonstrated a high level of expertise in a particular topic of area relevant to the group
“Ambassador” - members who help guide and mentor new members in the group
